I’ve got a few projects that I want to talk about, but first….
Thank you so much Laurie!! ( from That’s Not What the Recipe Says)
She has bestowed upon me a wonderful award.
I’m chuffed to get this award from Laurie. I’m a huge fan of her blog. She shares the same views on cooking and food that I do. She’s a fantastic writer and reading her blog is always a joy. Laurie is always there for me to bounce ideas off of. (at least someone listens to my rambling!) If we lived closer I’m sure that you would find us hanging out in each other’s kitchens discussing food and life. Laurie has a heart of gold and I’m very thankful to have her as a foodie friend.
I want to pass this award on to other blogs that I can’t go a day without visiting.
Jessica over at Apples and Butter – this gal is all class! Jessica is so creative and her food photography is some of the BEST that I’ve ever come across. She adds a creative twist to everything she makes. I’ve become very addicted to her lemon and mint ravioli filling. She has a great positive attitude about life and she is full of fantastic ideas.
Dawn over at Vanilla Sugar - Dawn has the most amazing culinary adventures! She’s always thinking ahead for her next creation. I love the fact that she cooks with her mind! I featured her last week on my Inspiration post for a crazy, mixed up salad that was delicious. If you are looking for a foodie with a lot of personality and jazz…Dawn is the one!
Dave over at Dave’s Cupboard - What can I say about Dave? His personality is as eccentric as mine. He can tell a fantastic story. Especially about his mother’s cooking. His blog and comments always bring a smile to my face and heart. Dave also has a great take on product reviews. They are never (and I mean NEVER) a boring review. Anyone who loves a little humor with their food needs to check him out.
Diva over at Beach Eats – Never a dull moment would be an understatement! Diva has a great outlook on life. She brings class and humor to her writing. I love the fact that she talks about more than just food. Any woman that carries three lipsticks in her handbag is a friend of mine! She writes about all aspects of food and culture. Go check her out for something totally different.
(Thanks again Laurie! You’re the best!!)
Now to the science project part of my post.
Today I am working on two recipes. The first one is my Gran’s refrigerator cookies. These were a staple in our family at any holiday function. They tasted very much like windmill cookies…
but her version was much thicker and they had an almost soft bite to them. I have her original recipe but I want to modernize the flavors. I think that they just need a little more oomph. I will be leaving the cookie base alone, but want to play around with the spices and nut selection.
My other project is Sipulipiirakka. Which is a Finnish onion pie. As usual I want to brighten the flavors. I know that caraway seeds are a traditional ingredient, but they have to go. They are truly the only seasoning in the dish. Smoked ham and onions bring a lot of flavor, but they are screaming at me to brighten them up.
So, I’m off to the market for a little creative shopping. If you have any ideas on how to modernize my two science projects let me know. I’m open to any and all suggestions.
